Welcome to the Kellytown Reading Group
Welcome to the Kellytown Reading Group! Since my earliest days one of my favorite pastimes was reading. As soon as I could start to read, you would always find me with a book in my hand. Over the course of time I have encountered a number of others who share my lifelong love of books and reading.
While I became a librarian, others that I have met have other professions. I have bonded with teachers, salespeople, students and many others. This is how we decided to share our love of books and reading with others in the community.
For most people, reading serves many purposes. It can be an escape from your everyday life. By reading people can be involved in a mystery, a romance, a fantasy or even learn more about a famous person. The options for reading are endless for people, and they can enjoy a book based on their interests.
Another good reason for people to read is to enhance learning. Reading is a great source to learn more about your favorite subjects. For example, if your favorite historical person is Abraham Lincoln, your local library will have a number of books on the life of President Lincoln. And now with the newer technology you can have access to books in many different places. You can have a physical book from the library or a book seller, or you can read an e-book.
But with all of the distractions that are around with social media, smart phone usage, video gaming and the choice of hundreds of channels available on television, often reading is not a priority with people. Despite all the distractions that we face today our group has tried to make reading fun for people of all ages.
We hope that you enjoy our site, and feel free to review our literacy for kids and literacy for adults’ pages. We have some information and resources that you may find interesting. And, if you are one of the people that don’t have enough time, we have some information that will help you too. Happy reading!
